Draw between Bordeaux and Monaco for Guion’s debut

Girondins de Bordeaux 1-1 AS Monaco

Bordeaux started the day bottom of the table having lost five of their previous six league games. They were therefore desperate for a positive result in former Stade de Reims coach Guion’s first game at the helm since replacing Vladimir Petković in the dugout. They duly took the lead midway through the first half when Rémi Oudin fired past Alexander Nübel after the ball fell nicely for him in the box.

The home side then received a massive boost when Monaco were reduced to 10 men just after the half-hour mark as already-warned Aurelien Tchouaméni received a second yellow card for a challenge on Jean Onana.

However, Bordeaux’s Achilles’ heel this season has been their defence. They hadn’t kept a clean sheet before Guion’s arrival and they cracked here in the 67th minute at Matmut Atlantique. It was the type of goal a side down on their luck could pass up, as Gelson Martins had his shot blocked by Anel Ahmedhodžić, only for the ball to bounce off Marcelo and go in to make it 1-1.

The result does little to help Philippe Clément’s Monaco in their quest to qualify for Europe while Bordeaux continue to support the table.

THE PLAYER: Aurélien Tchouaméni

Tchouaméni did not enjoy his visit to face the club where he first rose to prominence as he was sent off for two bookings in the first half.

Bordeaux have not kept a clean sheet after 25 games this season, the first time since Toulon and Stade Français in 1959-60.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Serhou Guirassy scored his first Ligue 1 start since September by netting a brace within the opening 20 minutes to score. reindeer on the way to a 4-1 victory over difficulties Estac Troyes. Canada international Ike Ugbo pulled one back for Troyes before the break at Roazhon Park but Martin Terrier made it 3-1 at home in the final quarter before Gaëtan Laborde added a late penalty to complete the victory .

Montpellier picked up a welcome win as Téji Savanier scored the game’s only goal to give them a 1-0 win at FC Lorientas all the goals came in the first half as AS Saint-Etienne draw 2-2 with RC Strasbourg Alsace. Ryad Boudebouz put the home side ahead at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard only for Habib Diallo and Lucas Perrin to turn the game around. However, Wahbi Khazri fired The Greens level again before the interval.

Reims Stadium and Brest Stadium 29 drew 1-1 in Champagne, with Wout Faes quickly giving Reims the lead before Martín Satriano equalized for the visitors who then saw Youcef Belaïli fail to convert a second-half penalty.
