Formula 1 qualifying results: 2021 US Grand Prix starting grid


Formula 1 is back in the United States after a one-year hiatus caused by COVID-19.

Max Verstappen was the fastest in qualifying on Saturday and secured pole position for Sunday’s United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Valtterri Bottas qualified fourth but will drop to 9th place for the race due to a grid penalty.

Verstappen will be busy fighting Lewis Hamilton for the championship lead. Hamilton earned his 100th career victory two races ago at the Russian Grand Prix. He will look to continue his dominance in Texas, where he has already won six times. The Red Bull driver is ahead of the Mercedes driver by a narrow margin of six points.

In all, there are 23 races scheduled into the 2021 F1 season, with the Portuguese Grand Prix sliding on record the first week of March. The originally planned Vietnam Grand Prix was withdrawn after the arrest of Nguyen Duc Chung , while the Chinese Grand Prix is ​​in the air. It was originally scheduled for April 11 but will likely not take place this season.

All races will air in the United States on the ESPN family of networks, with the United States Grand Prix and the Mexico City Grand Prix both airing on ABC. The Singapore Grand Prix was also withdrawn from the program, with the Turkish Grand Prix returning to the program in its place.
