Is Prince Albert’s wife a “crying wolf” and taking advantage of the health crisis to avoid appearing at public events? The former athlete reportedly looked ‘thoughtful’ and ‘unhappy’

Princess Charlene surprised everyone when he made his first public appearance since his five-month stay in a Swiss medical institution earlier this month.

The former South African Olympian attended the Monaco E-Prix motor race, alongside Prince Albert and twins – Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella.

While many royal supporters are happy to see Princess Charlene reunite with Prince Albert, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, her return to the spotlight has been shrouded in controversy. Keep reading to learn more.

Has Princess Charlene come out of hiding?

Globe Magazine, in its next issue on May 23, 2022, reported that Princess Charlene looked “unhappy” at her first public event. The 44-year-old blonde has even been photographed with Prince Albert, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella.

As the racing event has apparently become a family day for the royal brood, Princess Charles reportedly appeared “pensive” at the time. Prince Albert, ironically, was spotted waving and beaming as if he had everything under control.

The entertainment publication previously reported that Princess Charlene, a former Olympic backstop for South Africa, never seemed to fit into royal co-op life. Globe Magazine even claimed the royal tried to visit her home country three times before her 2011 wedding to Prince Albert.

Princess Charlene is said to have once taken refuge in her country’s embassy. However, unnamed sources told the outlet that the former athlete could not leave the city as Monegasque officials kept her passport.

The Princess Royal also split for South Africa in January 2021, weeks after a woman filed a lawsuit in Italy claiming Prince Albert fathered her 16-year-old daughter in 2006, when he still courting Princess Charlene.

The mother-of-two stayed in South Africa for ten months, despite her husband’s refusal to claim paternity, amid reports she had surgery for a sinus problem that left her unable to fly.

In November 2021, Princess Charlene returned to Monaco. However, just a week later, she was sent to an unidentified Swiss clinic to recover from “exhaustion, both emotional and physical”.

Prince Albert at the time said:

“She was overwhelmed and couldn’t cope with official duties, life in general or even family life.”

Insiders familiar with the situation, according to Globe, claimed that Princess Charlene was forced to undergo violent electroshock treatment at the psychiatric clinic in Switzerland. She returned home on March 17 and a photo of Prince Albert looking “uptight” and Charlene appearing affectionate with daughter Gabrielle surfaced online.

Royal journalist Stéphane Bern believes Princess Charlene is a ‘weeping wolf’ and has used her health crisis to not appear at public events with Prince Albert. She added:

“The palace must have summoned an ailing princess so often that the [people of Monaco] Today, I find it hard to believe.

Princess Charlene has yet to respond to statements by Stéphane Bern and reports claiming she looked “pensive” and “unhappy” in her first public appearance since her trip to Switzerland. So the royal’s dedicated supporters should take these reports with a huge grain of salt until everything is proven true and correct.

Princess Charlene returns to royal duties in Monaco

Meanwhile, Vanity Fair reported that Princess Charlene has returned to select public events, but it appears Prince Albert is interested in maintaining parental involvement. Indeed, the 64-year-old head of state flew to Disneyland Paris with Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques, but his wife did not join.

Snaps from a recent family trip showed Prince Albert and his twins with Princess Charlene posing with Mickey and Minnie Mouse outside Sleeping Beauty’s palace. In April, Charlene also shared a new family photo, and the events she attended were some of the biggest on the Monegasque calendar.

Apart from the Monaco E-Prix World Championship races, Princess Charlene also joined the family in another public engagement called the Sainte Devote Rugby Tournament, organized by her charity, the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation. The tournament was founded in 2009, and this year’s event was the first since 2019, as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic canceled events from the past two years.
