Obituary of Josefina Monaco (1947 – 2021) – Narragansett, RI
Her love and memory will live on in the heart of her husband Robert Monaco; son William Monaco; stepdaughter Sherrie Monaco; grandchildren Ben, Cooper and Morgan Monaco; brothers Manuel C. and Pedro C. Paulino and their spouses and children; Sister Pilar Rose P. Dydasco and her family; brother-in-law David Perez and his family; sisters-in-law Catalina, Connie, Ted and Dolores Paulino; and the Limtiaco family.
Fina was a dedicated employee and had a distinguished career spanning over 40 years as a computer scientist and program manager for the Department of the Navy. She has worked in Guam (her birthplace), Mare Island, California, Keflavik, Iceland, and Newport, Rhode Island. She retired in September 2010 from the Naval Undersea Warfare Center. Most notable in his career has been his expertise in documenting weapon systems on every submarine in the US Navy’s fleet. She was known for her kind heart and her sincere and loyal friendship.
As the wife of a Navy serviceman, she raised two exceptional children and kept an exceptional home, always the perfect host. Family meant a lot to her and she put all her love into it. She was the caring wife, super mom and spoiling grandma (better known as Meme M). She loved traveling, movies and plays and interacting with people. An avid runner, she ran numerous marathons and races, which was offset by her love of desserts.
Fina was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2011. She has dedicated herself to helping find a cure by immediately volunteering to study medicine for this horrific affliction. The newly introduced drug, Aducanumab, was his study drug. It sincerely slowed down the disease and expanded its capabilities during the early stages. Fina remained in this study for over 8 years. Unfortunately, there is still no cure for Alzheimer’s disease today.
With humble hearts, we, the family, wish to express our sincere appreciation for all the heartwarming words, love and prayers we have received.
