Southampton are among the clubs watching Red Bull Salzburg starlet Chukwubuike Adamu.

Forward Adamu is considered one of the most promising emerging strikers in Europe and is attracting growing interest.

The French Monaco team and a number of Bundesliga teams are also following the 20-year-old.

Adamu gained his first senior experience playing for Salzburg’s reserve team FC Liefering, scoring 26 times in 49 appearances in three seasons in Austria’s second division.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Swiss club FC Gallen, scoring eight goals in 18 games and returned to Salzburg this season.

The Austrians lead their domestic league and Champions League group with Adamu, valued at £ 15million, contributing four goals and one assist in his 19 appearances so far, including six starts.

In addition to alerting a number of clubs including Southampton, Adamu’s progress has also placed him at the center of an international standoff.

He has played and has been prolific for Austria at the youth level, playing for the Under-18s to the Under-21s.

But he was born in Nigeria and wants to call on Adamu for his senior squad ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations early next year.
